Project Description:
Five filmmakers revisit Roman Kroitor’s In the Labyrinth, the landmark 5 screen projection from EXPO 67 in Montreal, which became the catalyst for today’s IMAX technology. Through digital production the filmmakers return to the labyrinth to explore contemporary life, technology and culture with almost 50 years of evolution since the original film.

The filmmakers approach is based on the original technical and thematic production, while also keeping in perspective the era of the film in relation to today, in particular its limitations and intent.

Jamie Alexander McMillan (b. London, UK 1989) is an artist and filmmaker based in Toronto and Glasgow. His work questions the line between analog and digital modes of production, while exploring expanded cinema, print technology, and creative coding. He completed his Master’s at the Glasgow School of Art in 2015 and BFA at OCAD University in 2012. His work has been presented in Canada and Internationally, including the The Drake Hotel (Toronto), Giardino Dell’ArteCultura (Florence), The Poetry Club (Glasgow), Glasgow Film Theatre (Glasgow) Gayfield Gallery (Edinburgh), XPACE Cultural Centre (Toronto), Images Film Festival (Toronto), and Scotiabank Nuit Blanche (Toronto). In addition to his practice, he founded and runs the Augmented Cinema Film Festival, which supports emerging artists, designers and filmmakers working in film, video, and animation to exhibit their work in cinemas.
